A complete holiday lifestyle

Winchester's relaxed feel is complemented by a wide selection of pubs and restaurants to suit every imaginable mood and taste - a few are located near the city's charming waterside. All the properties are within a short walk of many of the best restaurants some of which are located on Jewry Street including: the newly opened Brasserie Blanc. Our favourite restaurant is La Place and Froggies Bar which is in Great Minster Street.  Residents of Winchester are spoilt for choice when it comes to shopping. The stunning High Street boasts and array of national retail outlets - with a backdrop of traditional architecture -  from Anokhi to Jaeger to River Island- you can find them all on the High Street.

Choice of attractions

Winchester is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in England, notably the North Downs and the New Forest. Perhaps not surprisingly therefore, there are also extensive facilities for recreation, with superb golf courses, including the famous Royal Winchester Golf Club  the oldest in the country. Horse racing is also a popular sport within the area - with courses at SalisburyWincanton Newbury. With the south coast just a short drive away, those of you love active pursuits will enjoy the sailing and windsurfing on offer. Whereas if you are looking for something a little more relaxing you will enjoy the choice of local theatres, including, the Theatre Royal Winchester on Jewery Street. The Screen Cinema is within easy reach of the cottages and apartments.

Past and present

Winchester is one of England's most famous areas - and one of its most historic. The city has Roman origins and was once a Saxon capital. Among its most famous buildings are Winchester College, founded in 1382 as well as the world famous Winchester Cathedral, founded much earlier, in the 7th Century. Today the cathedral still draws the crowds - especially Jane Austin's tomb and the monument to Bishop Wilberforce. Winchester's proud tradition as a seat of learning is also very evident. Both Winchester Collegeand St Swithun's were recently listed amongst the 'Top 50' schools in the country. The Winchester Discovery Centre houses the library.
