The River Test The River Test is a river in Hampshire, England which has a total length of 40 miles (64 km) a chalk stream, known throughout the world for the excellent quality of its fly fishing for trout, flowing through some of the most beautiful downland from the source near Ashe 10km west of Basingstoke (SU532498) to the sea at the head of Southampton Water. The river rises near the village of Ashe, Overton, Laverstoke, Whitchurch, joining with the Bourne Rivulet at Testbourne, Longparish, Middleton, Wherwell, Chilbolton, here the Rivers Dever and Anton join the flow, Leckford, Longstock, Stockbridge, Houghton, Mottisfont, Kimbridge. Here the River Dun joins the flow, Timsbury, Roke Manor, Romsey, Sadler's Mill, (18th Century watermill), sits astride the river, country house of Broadlands, Nursling, Totton, Redbridge. Here the River Blackwater joins the flow - turning tidal - widening into an estuary the River Test estuary meets the River Itchen estuary and the two estuaries slip towards the the Solent as Southampton Water. |
